There’s something I don’t get on p. 726: “The young and eruption-studded person’s report remained consistent two levels past average USA endurance, the only variance involving several curious claims that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was defensive in bed.” So the engineer for WYYY is being tortured and interrogated, but I don’t get the last part. I assume he says something, probably a slang expression, that the Québécois don’t understand and thus translate verbatim instead of as idiom. What do you suppose he said that sounded like “defensive in bed”?
Pretty sure he was talking about MIT being in bed with Defense, meaning the Department of Defense, since MIT (and most major research universities)do a lot of their research using government grants and develop technology used in military applications.
