Man I feel like Iam getting ready for my last final @ College. I just hope that this group will help me stay on track and make it through al of it.

My son spent the past week in NYC. Well, he brought me home a present and wasn't I thrilled to receive a book bag from the Strand! Perfect timing. Now I can lug around IJ, my two reading guides, highlighters, pens, and whatever other detritus makes its way in there.

I'm currently on p.648 and plan to finish up asap. In the meantime, I'll start rereading from the beginning with everyone here tomorrow.

My copy is on my reading table. Just the size of it is a little intimidating! And I have read other long books; just reread _War And Peace and _Anna Karenina_ this past spring.

I hope the discussions here will get me through this book.

It sounds like this is your first time! Congrats. It's not as hard as people will make it out to be. I was thoroughly intimidated by it, given all the references to it being hard. It seems like every once in a while I'll hear a reference to it, immediately followed up by something like "I had to quit 40 pages in to it."

On topic, I saw on the IS front page that a working knowledge of Hamlet would be beneficial, so I had to do a quick reading of that before we started. Now I'm good to go!

I've got IJ, the OED, a notebook, a reader's guide and all the excitement necessary. I couldn't track down any Book Darts before we got started, so I ordered them from bookdarts.com. If anybody is looking for a way to not have to use highlighters and folded pages, this is a good way to go. They're little flat clasps that you can slide on the edges of pages that won't damage or stain the book.

Despite its being my birthday and being in the middle of rereading Moby Dick and reading 2666 and several other books. I have my stack of DFW books and I'm going to do this infinite summer thing, no jest.
