Pemulus' description of Annular Fusion seems to reveal a general theme of the rotten becoming fuel (literally, in this case) for renewal and growth, while recognizing that growth produces its own problems (feral hamsters, infantile giganticism). This large-scale process becomes a cycle as power from Annular Fusion is used to create yet more toxins and garbage that can be used as fuel. I suspect this theme might be repeated in many stories where rot shows up.
EDIT: mjdemo, I just read your post where you made a point similar to this one. Looks like I will be reading through previous posts to avoid more repetition.
