This week many readers saw the light at the end of the summer and sprinted toward it, finishing the novel and writing about the end. If you are still behind the spoiler line, you should avoid:
- Gerry Canavan, On Endings.
- Kevin Carey of A Supposedly Fun Blog, So I Lied.
- Daryl Houston of Infinite Zombies, I Know a Good Book When I Want to Write One.
- Lefttothereader, Infinite Summer …?.
- Pages Turned, Couldn’t Keep to the Schedule.
- Girl Detective, 100%.
- Uncertain Principles, David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest.
- Infinite Detox, Spoiler Line: ∞
Earlier, Infinite Detox was outraged at E.T.A. (and the novel’s) treatment of Michael Pemulis. Infinite Tasks concurred.
Paul Debraski is sticking the schedule; his latest posts looks at Wallace’s prescience regarding technology. Sarah observes that the book has become abruptly infantile.
The post of mine you link does deal with my finishing early, but there are no spoilers in it, and I don’t plan on spoiling in any upcoming posts either. So come on down. 🙂
As I’ve noted before, sticking with the spoiler line is becoming harder and harder, but I’m managing. I feel like I may be one of the only people left around here who has NO IDEA how this dang story actually ends.
In today’s post, The Triumph of Life I discuss Don Gately’s vision of the wraith. This post will have a Part II, as well, as there’s just so much going on here.
Oh, and I’ve stated previously my appreciation for all those, like Daryl, who’ve read the book before but keep their blog posts tightly controlled behind the spoiler.
I’m playing catch-up, so I’m just now getting my post for this week’s roundup up (http://thatsoundscool.blogspot.com/2009/09/infinite-jestation-blogthrough-p-714.html), but it’s funny. This week I’m all about the importance of perception, and how vital and unreproducible this first read is, so to me, I can’t imagine rushing past the spoiler line. Each page irrevocably changes the previous ones. I have nightmares now that I’m playing “Press Your Luck,” only with pages of Infinite Jest, and I’m just hoping there’s no whammy, no whammy on the successive pages, because it’s been such a redefining blast so far!
[…] And in case you missed it, much of our blogroll finished the book early (infinitedetox, Gerry Canavan, members of Infinite Zombies, and so forth). We listed their final reactions in the previous Roundup post. […]
