I moved to Phoenix last week (funny coincidence: I didn't realize IJ was partly set there). Spotted my first cockroach last night, and I knew just what to do! This is why we read great literature.

Erg. So gross but so glad you took the picture. Are you planning on using new tumblers each time? If so, have fun at the thrift store buying 8 dozen heavy tumblers, or stealing them from hotel rooms. |

Oddly, the glass sat firmly enough on the tile that it kept the roach in, but not so firmly that I thought it would suffocate. So I sent him on a long sea voyage and washed the glass. My guess is that David Foster Wallace didn't actually try this out. (But with 1000 pages to write, who can blame him? He had enough to do, rifling through the neighbors' dumpsters for discarded medicine bottles to transcribe their labels into footnotes) |
