Infinite Summer

When reading IJ?? My usual style of reading gets me nowhere with IJ..that style being.. --- as my father used to call me 'canvas back'-- is flat on my back on the sofa or bed with one leg over the back of the sofa or climbing up the wall.
That's just not possible with IJ unless you are reading it on Kindle which I'm not (too many notes to make) Believe me I'v tried for years to read it that way. but the book is so heavy it cramps my gut where most books rest....... but today ...

I actually sat at my desk, upright. In a posture not unlike a student...
with a good reading light and my Clairefontaine grid notebook ready to make my brilliant observations... like isn't that sentence amazing!!

When I'm on my bed, I have to periodically switch. I start off on my back (it's easier with a smaller book!), then move onto the side, and eventually wide up sitting criss-cross apple sauce on my bed. So far, the easiest has been sitting at a desk with the book, but I am not willing to change my habits.

I have a comfy reading chair. Then I pile enough pillows from the couch into my lap that the book is close enough to my bad eyes to read. I keep the pens, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, energy drinks, prescription medication, muffins etc on a table next to the chair. I NEVER take it in the bathroom.

I generally lie on my bed on my stomach, propped up on elbows, with pen and post-its close at hand.

Thanks for the info. Now I can picture some of you better. i once read it in the bathtub and it fell into the water. It exploded to about 7 times its size.
when DFW signed it he said.." ah reading in the ole tub I see."

It sits in my lap on the subway, on top of my bag so I don't have to support its weight with my hands. Am I the only one getting wrist pain? I'm serious.

I repeatedly, even though I really should know better, try to read at night in bed, on my back, holding the book above me with both hands. You can predict the problem—I doze, the book falls like a brick thrown through a window, smacking me in the face. You'd think...

I love the image of the book falling on your head like a brick.
Reminds me of the story in IJ of the bricklayer who was trying to get health benefits... with a stagggering BAL... The bricks coming down on him.. then he is flying upwards then the barrell falling on him. Carol
