I just found out about this all today. Seems too coincident, given it's the kickoff day and all, for me not to be in. Infinite Jest may be the only published piece by Wallace that I haven't read (to my shame).

There must be more Chicago people around - a critical mass to have some sort of get together would be great...

I am most definitely in. I'll live in Chicago for about 2 more months. I'd like to spent some of that time discussing IJ.

My boyfriend and I are both in Chicago, both reading the book for the second time this summer. I'd be down for a meetup!

Hmm. How would be best to do this? Because OBVIOUSLY I'm not getting emails through the forums (grr).

Should we use twitter? Someone set up a NYC Twitter for Infsum Meetups. Or we could do a mailing list (OLD SKOOL STYLE).

Thoughts?

I'm not going to say Look at the link below and join my Community, because that's lame, and it's really not the point of my comm. So, what do you guys think?

I'm not quite twitter-literate, sadly. You might say I'm illtwitterate!

Bahahaha.

Seriously, however you want to do it. I guess I could figure it out, the twitter thing. Or a mailing list might be cool.

I'm sorry, this isn't helpful. I mostly just wanted to postbecause of my twitter pun up there in the beginning.

bwhahaha That's hilarious.

No, it is helpful. I mean, not everyone is on twitter. Also, unlike me (who has a LITTLE BIT OF AN INTERNET PROBLEM) , not everyone has a constat 'net connection.

I'd love to do a casual every couple of weeks thing at a bar somewhere (like on a Tuesday or Wednesday), but I don't know who would show up. I would love it to be central-ish and close to a train for those of us who do not drive. And in the CITY (those not in Chicago can set their own up, sorry). I know from working in a bookstore there are a good number of people doing it - I've had 2 people coming in looking for the book in the last few days alone.

So not like a reading group, per se, rather a loosely knit commiseration group that meets 2X a month at a bar, just show up and grab a beer?

I'm out in the far west 'burbs but I'd love to come to the city to meet other Infinite Summerers. Can't promise anything until there's a date/place/time settled, but I hope it works out.

A bar would be fine -- I've got a bike and am near the el, so I can pretty much get anywhere that's convenient for everyone. I live in Logan Square bordering Bucktown, so I feel like I'm close enough to most any neighborhood you all choose. There are also a few quiet bars with good beer selections around here that might work (the Charleston, actually, is the only one I can think of at the moment) but name the place and I can get there.

Two words:

Green Eye.

I haven't been there in FOREVER.
