paris - Your posts look pretty packed with in-depth analysis. I intend to take a look once I'm done with the book so as to form some of my own interpretations first. Regarding Pemulis succeeding, I'd like to see that too, so I hope he doesn't end up like Hamlet's Polonius, assuming that parallel is accurate. With the striking similarity in names, I suspect it is.

Thanks, SeanO. Just so you know, I'm a first-time reader staying at the spoiler line every day, so my readings don't call out with any special interpretive authority, and they definitely don't reveal any of the plot-to-come, which I anticipate as eagerly as anyone! I think I've helped some others feel/think their way along with the novel, though it is perfectly reasonable that some of my ideas may well turn out in retrospect to be as interesting as a Master Cartridge viewed at 450-rpm on the TP.

I'd say that Orin's definitely not the brightest crayon in the box, and the "Swiss" hand model must in fact be Canadian, but I can't quite understand what she's doing with him, or why everyone seems to think he knows something about the Entertainment.

But in a contradictory way, I have a sneaking suspicion that Orin may actually turn out to be involved in the Infinite Jest plot, which seems to go against his apparent dim-wittedness. I just keep thinking back to him tracing that infinity symbol on a Subject's thigh.
