haha! i love this! good catch. something about this book puts my memory centers into overdrive and i find myself flipping back 100 pages to corroborate minor details and coincidents that don't actually mean much and that i probably wouldn't catch in other books. practical knowledge may be being pushed out of the way for all these details... i couldn't unlock my deadbolt yesterday. |

levingard--that was AWESOME. what's so beautiful about it is the randomness of the catch. i don't feel pressure to catch all the intertextual references DFW makes--how could I?--but there's a flash of the uncanny when you recognize an echo from somewhere else. it's a reminder of something--of where this behemoth novel came from, just tiny little fragments, that become a microscopic, fleeting point of connection. love it. |

wow. and really believable that Hal and Orin, with their weird relationship and tendency to ironically screw with each other verbally would knowingly speak in such quotes. |
