Two nights ago I attended my first Joan Baez concert and she performed a Steve Earle song titled "God is God". In introducing the song she said she asked Earle what the title meant and his reply wsa that "It's recovery-speak". Having just read one of the addiction sections that afternoon it was easy to see how the lyrics echoed the themes Wallace expressives so much more effectively.

I like this thread. I think I have to slow down with the reading because last night I had a terrible dream about my kitchen being overrun by fist sized spiders

I'm glad I'm not the only one having IJ dreams!

I posted about this on my blog (http://thatsoundscool.blogspot.com), but how about this "map/territory" invasion?

Now if someone would just lob a bald tennis ball at the back of the neck of Ann Coulterplan, um, I mean Coulter.

I just had a flurry of IJ invading my life beyond the urge to use w/r/t in business emails!

Last week while entertaining myself with some mindless tv (down to fewer stations after the digital transition so I didn't catch the Weeds episode that was discussed elsewhere) I was watching Supernatural. As part of the plot involving a ghost driving employees at his company mad one of the employees kills himself by putting his head in a microwave oven! The logistical details were slightly different but I just couldn't believe it.

Then the next day an email arrives from Powells Books - their Review of the Day - and it's a review of a new biography of the Wittgenstein family. While it's mainly about another son, Paul, it does, of course, discuss Ludwig.

Finally, when filling out a questionnaire for a team building event at work I was very tempted to put Randy Lenz and the Steel Saks as my favorite band. I didn't, but I did go ahead and put Eschaton as my favorite sport!

I love it and wish I'd thought of that myself.

There's a work related presentation that I occasionally give that includes a section on having the proper demeanor and I always mention that people should not get a case of the howling fantods. Each time I do it I offer a free drink to anyone who can give me the literary reference though sadly I have yet to buy anyone a drink as a result.

First - I can't take credit for the band - someone else came up with it, I want to say it was Matthew on one of his main page posts or at least in a comment section. But I absolutely love it!

Second - that's very sad that you haven't bought anyone a drink yet. There is one person in my office who is also reading along, so she'll get the Eschaton reference, and I did mention it to a few people when I read that section, but other than that I'm sure no one will. Their loss!
