I have the new paperback edition (the one with the title in yellow and the Dave Eggers foreword) and page 990 (part of the filmography endnote) has some typographical weirdness going on: A bunch of words have superscript '1's at the end (looking like endnote references, but seemingly not in this case) and the initial letters of some words are printed over the ends of the preceding words. Does this page appear this way in other editions? Is this intentional, or a printing error?

I think it's a printing error. I have the hardback edition and there isn't anything wrong with the endnote. Sorry man!

I noticed this, too. And now I'd like to see one of the other editions to compare. In what little DFW I've read, the footnotes are copious but they're also real, whereas these super-scripted ones don't lead anywhere. There are several entries on that page (I have the same edition as you) where the title and year overlap a bit (starting with Wave Bye-Bye to the Bureaucrat. The superscripted ones start the top of that page and are on almost every word of most every title.

Unfortunately, the same sort of error appears on an italicized word a little past this week's portion of the book, too. It remains to be seen how many more there are. :?

EDIT: Someone actually made a thread addressing this particular instance, which occurs on page 82.

I can read through the errors, now that I know it's not another layer of meaning to decipher.
