Is this mentioned anywhere in the book itself? There are discussions between Marathe and Steeply where Steeply wonders about the subject of the Entertainment. Wouldn't they be able to set up a camera in a room to take photos of a TP playing the Entertainment? One a second or whatever. |

I'm not sure that a photo would accurately represent what it is about the samizdat that makes people go bonkers - namely, the use of the 'wobbly' neo-natal lens effect combined with Joelle apologizing over and over. |

There's questions about whether the Entertainment uses holography. Could a photograph of a holograph provide meaningful data? I don't know much about optics. |

You may be overthinking this. ![]() Did anyone see the Monty Python bit with the world's funniest joke that was read to the enemy to kill them? |

This was my question as well - why they couldn't just record it with a camera and then make duplicates from that copy. The way I figure it, since Himself was such an optics man, only a pristine copy would do - anytime you record something and watch it, the quality degrades, maybe not enough for a casual observer to notice but certainly for a film person to notice, and that could mean the difference re: all the optical effects really grabbing you and keeping you in front of the screen. |
