Has anyone else noticed the striking similarities between Wallace's fatally-engrossing Entertainment, and the ? I can't believe I haven't made this connection until now but it's amazing when you put the two side-by-side -- I get into it a little bit . And it seems like a lot of the situational humor in IJ is similar to stuff you'd see in Monty Python -- the bricklayer's story, some of Himself's gimmicky films. I can't find anything anywhere on how much of a Python fan Wallace was but the connection seems pretty undeniable -- are there any other particularly Python-esque situations that have popped up in IJ so far? |

Now that you mention it - the seeming absurd and abrupt changes of time/place/narrative could certainly be preceded by someone intoning "and now for something completely different." Of the many the one that leaps to my mind first is the appearance of the herd of feral hamsters! |
