p. 449 The young Don Gately playing Sir Osis of Thuliver poignantly sums up one of the sadder sections of the novel thus far and called to mind the earlier section beginning at p. 157 where James Incandenza is subjected to his father's descent into a drunken ramble. It also provides another of the acronyms, S.O.T., I now find myself searching for in Wallace's writing. |

re: SOT - on pg 192 the person who calls in to 60 +/- says the moon, which of course as any sot knows revolves around the earth, does not itself revolve. Call me crazy but so far the only thing in this book that has made me cry was the description of Don Gately cooking dinner for the residents at Ennet House, and how he hovers over them hoping they'll enjoy it, and he doesn't even need oven mitts to hold the pots that burn the table. |
