(one of my favorite characters, by the bye), something small but very telling in that encounter. I don't have the book in front of me, so I can't cite the exact page, but I think it is remarkable, in a book all about the elusiveness of true happiness, that Pat M. is observed by Marathe (an astute observer, it has been established) to be happy. I think that's beautiful, myself. I just wanted to note, as we pass the mark where Marathe spends time with Pat M.
