The whole thing seemed forced, overly long and just plain not funny. I actually had to convince myself that DFW was using the whole episode as some sort of meta-commentary on the overindulgence of writers (or something) but I wasn't successful. In the end I just had to chalk it up to a painful miscue and not let it ruin the book for me. Eschaton is probably the worst part of the entire novel in my opinion.
