Thanks Eden,
Just wanted to echo the appreciation for you "showing up". IS has been such a great addition to my summer, and I have to say I'm still eagerly devouring each week's assigned reading and IS posts. In fact, I'm laughing at myself right now as my husband stares incredulously at me - we are on vacation sitting on the deck of our hotel room literally on the sand with the beach waves rolling in about 50 yards away and I've got my laptop out reading IS and writing this comment! LOL, thanks again! (endnote: My husband does NOT thank you and is seriously regretting that day a few weeks ago when he tore a little notice out of the LA Times and put it on my bedside nightstand.)

Hey Eden,

I really appreciate this post. Thanks for the down to earth, just really honest-feeling voice. I have been working hard to show up. That includes, in my case too, a yoga practice that I don't always love or even feel I can get through...and I'm having that same experience with IJ: I'm grateful for the daily practice of reading it now. (Though, as with yoga, I do sometimes feel like I'm not up to it right in that moment. -But then I just do it anyway.)
Best to you. -J

You know what, I groaned when I saw that endnote, because I have tried to take STA 2023 (statistics) 3 times and not been able to complete the course... and that endnote just gave me the... well, the howling fantods. Until I got to the humor. HALSADICK and the one meter comment cracked me up.

It def spoke to the 13 yo in me, and I wondered what I would have thought of this book as a teen. :) I'm pretty sure I would have loved it.

Anyways, I also looked up eschatology, in order to be able to pronounce it properly! Ah, Wallace.

If I give you full credit every time it's reprinted, can I put footnote 53 on my syllabus if ever again someone assigns me to teach an 8am section of MWF English 1A?
Your ashtanga metaphor, btw, is especially apt in that, five minutes in, you have to make the choice whether to hang out and pay attention or to roll up the mat and try again later. And that inhales lengthen (AA and Steepley/Marathe segments?) and exhales rotate you deeper into the prose(ETA scenes).
